The Office for Mercy Service
The Office for Mercy Service provides the Carlow community with a collaborative base for community outreach, volunteer programs, and year-round service opportunities including four key programs: Alternative Spring Break, Mercy Service Day, Staff and Faculty Service Days, and monthly themed service opportunities.
Carlow’s commitment to service is as old as the university itself. The founders of the university, the Sisters of Mercy, were motivated by the needs of the poor, the immigrant, and the marginalized. Today, we continue the tradition of engaging with those who are most in need.
Service and volunteer opportunities are continuously updated and communicated to the Carlow community, raising awareness of our community’s challenges and needs, and showing our students the many ways they can help. Through creating connections and fostering relationships between our community partners and student volunteers, non-profit organizations’ service capacity to the community is increased, volunteers are personally transformed through understanding and reflecting on social and moral challenges, and professional connections and networks are made and nourished.
The Mercy Center for Service is one of the three offices within the
Center for Mercy Heritage and Service.
